Touch the Sky!

Today was Touch the Sky, a full day event for girls 14-18.  We toured Vintage Wings in Gatineau and met some amazing women working in aviation, including a pilot, an aviation mechanic and an air traffic controller.  We had a great discussion about girls and women with interests and careers that are typically male dominated.  The girls also talked about some of the challenges they expeience in school with competitivesness and double standards for girls and boys.  After that, it was off to the Great Canadian Theatre Company to see Amelia: The Girl Who Wants to Fly!  What  a great production!

Mission Statement -updated!

Working out the mission statement for the GCP is a work in progress; initially our mission statement was rather long...here is the updated, condensed version:

The Girls’ Centre Project’s mission is to provide opportunities for girls to unite for empowerment through healthy living, creative expression, learning in nature, skill-building, and mentorship.
We offer intergenerational programs incorporating traditions and teachings from a variety of cultures and perspectives.
